Participatory Approach: Immersion from a far.

Inspired by Thuy Dinh's, Project H.E.A.R, I wanted to create a visual story from soundbites, photographs and videos by having members of the immigrant community capture these themselves with only a bit of my guidance.

The reality is that participatory approach is on a scale from I dictate everything and participants hardly have a say to I'm just watching and participants and doing everything. Both Ayuda, an immigrant serving organization and Latinos En Foco are more excited about me documenting a special moment/their process and photographing/interviewing their members. This project, Love4Immigrants lies somewhere in the middle, not fully participatory and not completely under my control. I'm inspired to create my own photographs, in addition to the ones created through my partnerships with Ayuda, Latinos En Foco and Carecen. Below is my concept board. Of course the outcome is always different and in this case is dictated by the interactions I have with my partners.
